LET’S IMPROVE OUR VOTING SYSTEM!
There’s no doubt our presidential (and more than likely many state and local level) elections are rigged in the interests of the establishment. It all starts with the popular majority not counting as the actual vote. What? Yes, it’s true, the electoral college vote is the deciding factor as to who becomes president. In the event there’s a tie, the House of Representatives get to select from the 5 candidates with the most votes; the popular vote has very little to no weight. They try to pass this truth over our heads by claiming each state’s popular vote is intended to influence the vote of their electoral representatives, what a pile of bologna.
Although blatantly unfair to the American people, that’s not even the saddest part. The sad reality is that the popular vote is often manipulated, scanned incorrectly and miscounted, and whether it’s intentional or not (I’m sure it is), it’s effecting the end results. Did you know the punch cards can be scanned in backwards and it will actually count the votes backwards, resulting in a negative vote? Not to mention, votes stores on cartridges can be manipulated by the end-user before plugged into the system. How can such flawed systematic processes be accepted or approved as our official voting process? Many “officials” have used the excuse that many rural areas don’t have the funding to purchase new machines. Well, who said they have to purchase “machines” to handle the voting process? Why can’t they just move the polls to local public schools and/or library’s and use computers within the schools to handle the voting process? Computers? YES, what public school doesn’t have internet access?
Our Conceptualized Fail-Proof Systematic Voting Process
If we were using public computers and internet access with an OPEN VOTING SYSTEM, there would be no loopholes or room for error. An open voting system is exactly what it sounds like, a 100% transparent and open voting platform. What does “open” or “transparent” mean? It means that the source code that powers the core functionality of the system should be made publicly available. This way, people can see there is no room for error at any angle. The beauty of this system is that people could also cast their vote via mobile or their home computers, without ever having to leave their home or office. Have you ever thought, if we can make voting more convenient and meaningful, MAYBE MORE PEOPLE WILL VOTE?! It makes sense doesn’t it?
To make such a technology work, certain data would have to be collected from each voter, their SSN, their address, their contact details, their license/ID number, anything to prevent double entry or voter fraud! Each vote would have to be accounted for and there could be absolutely no room for error. Then of course we could take it a step further and make each elections results available in a downloadable data set (with some details omitted to protect everyone’s privacy) or through an API. We’re confident we have the technology to raise the bar with our voting process in the US, and we’d be incredibly stupid not to make every effort to get this in action. If interested, you can read more about our mission.
EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN’T ACCOUNT FOR MUCH, YOU SHOULD STILL VOTE!
It’s important we vote to make sure our electoral college representatives know what we want. Even though it may or may not have any real influence, it’s important we voice our opinions if we care about the future of this country. Even if our vote may be miscounted or misconstrued, we should still VOTE. And on November 6th, 2012, we should get on our phones or return home or to our office and cast a SECONDARY UNOFFICIAL vote at OpenVoting.us! Why? Because we are trying to set an example for the future of the election process. Remove any room for error or corruption and restore faith in the voting process to the American people. Even if only 1,000,000 people cast a vote through OpenVoting.us on November 6th, the RATIO and the significance of the platform is really all that matters! But, we aim to get more than a million votes, we aim to get everyone who votes in the caucus to vote through our system. To make this happen we need volunteers to go to their local voting office on the election day and pass out flyers, cards and spread the message. We will make the voting process simple, either by calling an automated phone system or by going to our website. On November 6th, 2012 our website will be switched over to our proprietary Open Voting system, and together we can influence positive change in our election process.
